The founder of skincare brand Deciem has died, the company said in a statement on Monday. 

Brandon Truaxe, 40, was behind the creation of the company best known for cult skincare line The Ordinary.

He has been recognised for his innovations in the beauty and skincare industry.

His death comes not long after he was removed from his role at the company after months of erratic online behaviour.

Deciem was founded in Toronto, Canada in 2013 and has since expanded across the globe.

In a message posted on Instagram, the company said of Mr Truaxe: "You touched our hearts, inspired our minds and made us believe that anything is possible".

"Thank you for every laugh, every learning and every moment of your genius. Whilst we can't imagine a world without you, we promise to take care of each other and will work hard to continue your vision."

Mr Truaxe was removed from his role in October.

He had taken over the company's social media accounts earlier that year and began posting personal and sometimes concerning and bizarre messages, often accompanied by rambling captions, confusing fans of the brand and leading to concerns about his health.

He also used the social platform to publicly sever ties with collaborators and temporarily shuttered the company's stores.

Minority investor Estée Lauder, which had bought a stake in 2017 in the company, eventually sought legal action in Canada to remove Mr Truaxe from his role at Deciem.

Deciem is a beauty and skincare company founded in Toronto, whose tagline is "the abnormal beauty company", owns multiple brands focused mainly on skin and hair care.

The most popular and well-known is The Ordinary, a skincare line which offers affordable products with ingredients most often associated with expensive creams and serums.

It is considered one of the breakout skincare brands of the last couple of years and garnered a cult following, numerous beauty awards, and the attention of major companies in the industry like Estée Lauder.

Deciem founder Brandon Truaxe was found dead on Sunday, reports Radar. He was 40.

It is believed he jumped or fell from his 32nd floor penthouse in the Distillery District.

Nicola Kilner, the company acting CEO, wrote an email to company staff saying that all Deciem offices, warehouses, factories and stores would be closed on Monday in his honour, Vox reported.

 Toronto police told the site that Truaxe jumped, and landed on the terrace of a sixth floor apartment.

“He was found dead at the scene,” a police spokesperson said. “Someone looked under their balcony window and saw someone lying on the terrace half covered in snow, meaning he had been there for a while.”

There was no evidence of foul play. His Deciem colleague Riyadh Swedaan told the National Post, “I don’t think he jumped. I think he fell,”

GiGi Wu, a social media star known as the “Bikini Climber,” has died, reports Taiwan News. She was 36.

The Taiwanese woman, known for posing on mountaintops in bikinis, was on a multi-day solo hike in Central Taiwan’s Yushan National Park when she fell 65 feet near Mabolasi Mountain.

She called for help on a satellite phone, and Focus Taiwan says she indicated she was in distress and unable to move. It took rescue workers more than 24 hours to reach her due to bad weather.

‘Bikini Climber’ GiGi Wu

When rescue services arrived, she showed no signs of life. Temperatures reportedly dipped to freezing overnight, and the BBC says it is believed she died of hypothermia.

Wu was an avid amateur climber, completing 100 hikes in 97 bikinis in four years, according to Focus Taiwan.

While she hiked in normal climbing gear, she liked to pose in bikinis once she reached the summit.

A gunman who barricaded himself in a SunTrust Bank in Florida killed at least five people in the branch on Wednesday, Sebring Police Chief Karl Hoglund said.

The suspect called authorities to say he had entered the bank in Sebring, about 85 miles south of Orlando, and began shooting, according to Hoglund. Authorities identified the suspect as 21-year-old Sebring resident Zephen Xaver, who is in custody.

"We've suffered significant loss at the hands of a senseless criminal doing a senseless crime," Hoglund said.

It wasn't immediately clear if those shot were bank employees or customers. The victims have not yet been identified and family notifications have not yet been made, according to authorities.

The incident began with the phone call to authorities from the suspect around 12:36 p.m. He said he had fired shots inside the bank, according to police. Sebring Police and Highlands County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene.

Initial negotiations to try to get the barricaded suspect to leave the bank were not successful, so a SWAT team entered the bank and continued negotiations.

The suspect eventually surrendered to the SWAT team at the bank along US-27, between Lake Jackson and Little Lake Jackson, police said.
