300 | TikTok disables prominent hashtags associated with conspiracy theory QAnon, July 24, 2020


TikTok has disabled two prominent hashtags associated with the QAnon conspiracy theory, ABC News has learned.

The Chinese-owned video sharing app removed the ability to search for the hashtags mentioning the group's name and most popular slogan on July 23. The move followed a widespread crackdown announced by Twitter earlier this week, which involved the removal of 7,000 Qanon accounts and introduced restrictions on posting links associated with Qanon theories.

The crackdown on QAnon material on TikTok appears to have occurred overnight. A hashtag of the group's name had over 80 million views on July 22, but returned zero results on July 23, according to research by Samuel Oakford, who works for the social media agency Storyful.

The “1619 Project” was launched in August with a 100-page spread in the Times’s Sunday magazine.

It intends to “reframe the country’s history” by crossing out 1776 as America’s founding date and substituting 1619, the year 20 or so African slaves were brought to Jamestown, Va.

58 158 | Cotton Bill to Defund 1619 Project Curriculum, July 23, 2020


Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) introduced the Saving American History Act of 2020, a bill that would prohibit the use of federal funds to teach the 1619 Project by K-12 schools or school districts. Schools that teach the 1619 Project would also be ineligible for federal professional-development grants.




Under the bill, the Secretaries of Education, Health and Human Services, and Agriculture would be required to prorate federal funding to schools that decide to teach the 1619 Project—determined by how much it costs to plan and teach that curriculum. Any federal funds intended for low-income students or special-needs students are not affected by this legislation.




“The New York Times’s 1619 Project is a racially divisive, revisionist account of history that denies the noble principles of freedom and equality on which our nation was founded. Not a single cent of federal funding should go to indoctrinate young Americans with this left-wing garbage,” said Cotton.


The 1619 Project is a revisionist history project of the New York Times widely criticized by historians.

People in Glendale must wear a face covering in public or they will face a steep fine, beginning with the first offense, officials announced this week.

The Glendale City Council on Tuesday affirmed the imposition of fines for those who do not comply with the city’s public order, which was originally issued on April 10, to wear a face covering when outside of their household and in public.
