Evacuations orders were lifted and the northbound 14 Freeway reopened as crews gained the upper hand on a brush fire in Santa Clarita Monday evening.
The flames sparked around 1:45 p.m. in the area of the freeway and Newhall Avenue and covered 130 acres as of 4 p.m., said the Los Angeles County Fire Department, after downgrading the size from 200 acres.

The blaze, dubbed the Elsmere Fire, was 30% contained and its forward rate of spread had been stopped by late afternoon, officials said.
