Christians in Orange County and all around Southern California observed Ash Wednesday, March 6, marking the beginning of Lent, a season of fasting and prayer.
Ash Wednesday falls 46 days before Easter Sunday and is primarily observed by Catholics and other Christian denominations.
The practice of wearing ashes on one’s forehead on this day symbolizes the dust from which God is believed to have created man.
On Wednesday, the Rev. Kevin Vann, the Bishop of Orange, celebrated an Ash Wednesday Mass at Cornelia Connelly School in Anaheim where several students received the ashes from him.
Some congregations also select topics to study and reflect on during Lent.
Today's date is March 6, 2019, date written 3/6 or 6/3
