Former England goalkeeper and 1966 FIFA World Cup winner Gordon Banks has died aged 81.

Banks is regarded as one of the Three Lions' all-time great players, turning out 73 times in total for the national team and was in goal for the World Cup final victory over West Germany in 1966, which England won 4-2 after extra time at Wembley.

Banks was also part of the side that went to Mexico in 1970, a tournament at which he made what many regard as the greatest save of all time from Brazil striker Pele.

Gordon Banks was an English professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He made 628 appearances during a 15-year career in the Football League, and won 73 caps for England, highlighted by starting every game of the nation's 1966 World Cup victory.

A New York Police Department detective was shot and killed Tuesday, and a sergeant was hit in the leg, after they responded to a reported robbery at a cell phone store in the borough of Queens, city officials said.

It was an apparent incident of friendly fire, Police Commissioner James P. O'Neill said. As the two officers went into the store, a suspect came out of a back room with a replica handgun. The detective and sergeant fired, and as they were leaving the store, the detective was apparently shot by uniformed officers.

Brian Simonsen, 42, and a 19-year veteran of the department, was killed, police said.

Drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera, who once headed a criminal enterprise that spanned continents and triggered waves of bloodshed throughout his native Mexico, was found guilty Tuesday of all 10 federal criminal counts against him.

The vast Brooklyn, New York, courtroom fell silent as the verdict was read. Jurors did not look at the defendant, who pocketed nearly $14 billion as the decadeslong head of the murderous Sinaloa cartel.

There was no visible reaction from Guzmán, whose conviction on the top charge of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise carries a mandatory term of life in prison. He will be sentenced on June 25.
